But despite not being available just yet, we know quite a bit about the Reigns: Game of Thrones, including the release date, platform availability, pre-orders and, most importantly, gameplay. Keep reading to find out all you need to know, and if all this Thrones-talk has got you in the mood for some binging, here’s how to watch HBO shows in the UK.

Reigns: Game of Thrones release date

As suggested by the game’s iTunes listing and later confirmed by publisher Devolver Digital, Reigns: Game of Thrones is set for release on 18 October 2018.

Reigns: Game of Thrones platform support

Like the other games in the Reigns series, Reigns: Game of Thrones will be available to download on iOS, Android and PC via Steam and GOG. And before you ask; no, it’s not free. It’ll cost you £2.99/$3.99 across all platforms, and if you’re keen, you can pre-order it on the App Store, Google Play and Steam right now.

Reigns: Game of Thrones gameplay

In terms of gameplay, expect something similar to Reigns, the popular game for iOS and Android released back in 2016. Reigns is famed for the unique style of gameplay; it’s text-based, with your decisions on everything – from raising taxes to employing the use of a doctor – having a knock-on effect on the storyline. It sounds simple, but it’s harder than you think to be a king in the early ages! It turns out that it doesn’t take much for somebody to murder a king… It’s a similar concept in Reigns: Game of Thrones, but with the addition of brand-new mechanics. Through visions of Melisandre, you’ll be able to rule the Iron Throne as a range of characters from the hit HBO TV show. You’ll be able to play not only as Cersei Lannister, but Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister, Sansa Stark and more, navigating your way through the complex relationships and tensions of the Seven Kingdoms.

This is where it gets interesting; the game will offer storylines that extend way beyond the TV series, allowing you to explore the fates of the various characters if they were to rule the Seven Kingdoms. What would the Seven Kingdoms be like if Sansa Stark had married Jaime Lannister? There’s only one way to find out. It’s not a case of you choosing a character and playing through a set storyline; each character has a unique storyline with different challenges and mysteries to solve, and you’ll be able to switch between them freely. For the first time, you’ll be able to kill off characters at will, though it’ll likely have an impact on the future of your reign – for better, or for worse.

It’s backed up by the official score of the HBO series, so you’ll feel right at home when playing Reigns: Game of Thrones. It should be enough to keep us busy until the final season of Game of Thrones hits screens next year, anyway!
